Performance, Live Drawing. The artist will enter the space with lilies 'growing' from her eyes. (Fabric and wax lilies sewn into a blindfold.) The artist is completely blind and will begin to draw in relation to the soundpiece, incorporating the sounds of the audience. This performance is a collective ritual in which the artist creates a 'sigil' with charcoal. The paper is weighted down by four rocks collected from the for corners of Ireland, grounding the sigil and creating a 'portal'. The poetry is written and read aloud by the artist via soundpiece.
The sound piece is made from sounds collected in the Irish countryside, it is merged with free-sourced sounds of the coral reef dying, NASA sounds from earth spinning in space and the sounds from the deepest point in the earth. It includes birdsong and emptier moments, recorded in areas where hedges are being cut away and biodiversity is being culled. This soundpiece shows destruction.. but also health and re-birth. Studies have shown playing the sounds of a healthy environment encourages wildlife to return; similarly this piece intends to foster healing through intention.
